Marketing an independent ("indie") company can be tricky business, as Jessica Lynne Miller quickly learned after launching her line of natural mineral makeup products, J.Lynne Cosmetics, in January 2005. "When I first started my company, our products filled a niche and our marketing was primarily via word-of-mouth. But as competition grew, we discovered that marketing our products through beauty-related websites and blogs was key to attracting new customers and creating interest in our line."
Inspired by the blogs she was introducing her own products to, and fueled by her passion for the growing community of indie crafters and designers, Jessica introduced Smitteniche in August 2008. Her enthusiasm, humor, and engaging writing style quickly resonated with readers, and encouraged her fellow creators to submit their products and shops for consideration.
"As an indie craftsperson myself, I love reading the inspirations and insights of small business owners," Jessica explains. "So I created an interview series which would shine a spotlight on rising designers and introduce readers to their products and their world.
